Sergio Garcia missed the cut yesterday, but the other three golfers who have been selected for this week’s column are still going. All three needed to go low and make up a lot of ground on Saturday to have a shot on Sunday. With all of the talent featured this week, this is a distinct possibility. But did any of this week’s players actually go low today? Do any of them have a shot tomorrow? Keep reading to find out.
Canadian Open Favorites
Dustin Johnson had to shoot a good score today to have a chance, as he came into the weekend well back of the lead. He did have a pretty good day today, shooting a two under par 68. He’s sitting T17 at six under par, leaving him seven back going into the final day. He still has the slimmest of chances, but DJ would have to go very low and get some help from the guys in front of him. SugarHouse puts his odds to win the tournament at +125000.
Koepka needed a round in the mid 60s today to have a chance on Sunday. He didn’t get it, carding a two over par 72. This leaves him at two under for the tournament, 11 back of the lead. Frankly, Koepka is well out of contention and needs a good round to even finish in the top 25 this week. Unsurprisingly, SugarHouse is not laying odds on Koepka to win the tournament.
Canadian Open Underdogs
Sergio Garcia missed the cut this week. He’ll be looking to bounce back strong next week for the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.
Bubba’s season so far has been marred by inconsistency, and this week wasn’t one of his stronger performances. He was already pretty much out of contention, barring two excellent rounds in a row. He certainly didn’t have an excellent round today, shooting a three over par 73. This leaves him at one over for the tournament and likely already thinking about next week’s U.S. Open. As you might expect, SugarHouse is no longer laying odds on him to win the tournament.
