Round 1 of this year’s Canadian Open is over, and the favorites and the underdogs featured this week are all on the same area of the leaderboard. As surprising as this may be, there are still three rounds left to play. The fortunes of the players in this space will surely vary widely by the end of the day Sunday. To learn more about how this week’s favorites and underdogs played and what their current odds are, see below.
Canadian Open Favorites
Dustin Johnson +2500
Dustin Johnson was the clear favorite coming into the tournament, with odds of +450 to win. He didn’t play particularly well on Thursday, carding a one over par 71. This puts him 8 back of Keegan Bradley, who carded a 63 to finish the day at seven under par. DJ’s odds now stand at +2500 in the SugarHouse sports book. He may be a ways back, but it’s far too early to count out one of the best players in the world.
Brooks Koepka +2000
Brooks Koepka was second favorite before Round 1, with odds of +700. He played a decent round, ending up with an even par 70. He has plenty of time to make up ground, and he has shown that he can go low when he needs to. Look for him to close the distance to the leaders on Friday and Saturday. His current odds, according to SugarHouse, are now +2000.
Canadian Open Underdogs
Sergio Garcia +12500
Sergio entered the week as a +3300 underdog. He probably needed to get off to a hot start to have a chance. Unfortunately, he could only manage a one over par 71 on Thursday. Unless he shoots in the mid 60s on Friday, Garcia is probably too far back to win, although he could still finish high. SugarHouse now puts his odds at +12500.
Bubba Watson +150000
Bubba was a bit of a dark horse this week at +3300. Like Sergio, he didn’t do himself any favors with a one over par 71. SugarHouse puts him at +150000, and he likely needs to shoot under par tomorrow for SugarHouse to even lay odds past today.
