This Thursday, May 30th, will be good to baseball fans as well as baseball bettors. A number of juicy matchups are on tonight’s slate. The red-hot Yankees renew their rivalry with the world champion Red Sox. The Royals have lost six of seven yet stand a good chance of ending their losing ways against the Rangers. Let’s take a closer look at tonight’s most intriguing matchups on the diamond.
Boston Red Sox (-162) at New York Yankees (+143) (O/U 8.5)
Chris Sale takes on J.A. Happ in a battle of the lefties. Happ was rocked his last time on the hill while Sale has struck out double-digit batters in four of his last five outings. The Yankees have emerged as one of the best teams in baseball even without Mike Stanton and Aaron Judge. Though the Yankees offense put up seven runs yesterday, their hitting machine is likely to cool against Sale.
Pick: Under 8.5
Kansas City Royals (+128) at Texas Rangers (-143) (O/U 10)
Jakob Junis takes on the Rangers’ Mike Minor in what could end up as a high-scoring affair. Minor showed some signs of brilliance when pitching for the Braves yet he will face an absolutely loaded Royals lineup tonight. Junis has a horrid 5.58 era and a mere 54 strikeouts in 61 innings pitched.
Pick: Royals +128
New York Mets (+220) at Los Angeles Dodgers (-250) (O/U 8)
The Mets will roll out Jason Vargas to the hill this evening in Los Angeles. The veteran leftie’s numbers are pitiful yet there are only so many humans capable of throwing a baseball 90 MPH with their left hand 100 times in a row. Vargas will likely have a spot in a major league rotation for at least a few more years even though he is well past his prime. The Dodgers Hyun-Jin Ryu has absolutely spectacular numbers; a 1.65 ERA, a 0.83 WHIP and a 7-1 record. The Dodgers lineup should rake tonight.
Pick: Over 8
Los Angeles Angels (-105) at Seattle Mariners (-109) (O/U 8.5)
The enigma that is Yusei Kikuchi will square off against the Angels’ Felix Pena this evening in Seattle. Though Kikuchi’s innings have been limited, he has been quite effective. Pena has been more than respectable for the Angels, posting a 3.22 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP. He allowed three earned runs in his last outing against Seattle. Even if both pitchers can make it to the 6th inning, this should be a high-scoring contest. The Angels right-handed power hitters are likely to put up at least one crooked number before Kikuchi gives way to the bullpen.
Pick: Over 8.5
