This beautiful Friday, May 31, brings plenty of baseball action. Hopefully, the baseball Gods will bless us with clear skies and low humidity so we can get in a full slate of games. The Brewers are set to face the Pirates in what could turn out to be an epic pitching duel between Jhoulys Chacin and Chris Archer. Texas Rangers fans are also in for an entertaining matchup between Ariel Jurado and the diminutive Danny Duffy.
Philadelphia Phillies (Jake Arrieta +148) at Los Angeles Dodgers (Kenta Maeda -167) (O/U 8.5)
Baseball fans are in for an entertaining contest this evening between the Phillies and Dodgers. Jake Arrieta has had an up-and-down season for the Phils while Kenta Maeda has posted a solid 3.67 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in his fourth season in the big leagues. Though Maeda might be able to conquer some of the Phillies’ right-handed batters, he lacks the stamina and velocity necessary to go pitch more than six innings. Baseball bettors should be salivating over Sugarhouse’s over/under of 8.5 for this matchup that will likely turn out to be a high-scoring contest.
Pick: Phillies moneyline (+148) and Over 8.5
Washington Nationals (Patrick Corbin -130) at Cincinnati Reds (Tyler Mahle +115) (O/U 9)
Patrick Corbin is set to take on Tyler Mahle and the Reds this evening. Corbin has tallied 81 strikeouts in 72 innings while posting a 2.85 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP in his first year with the Nationals. He went the distance in his last outing, a matchup with the lowly Marlins. Things should be a bit tougher this time around as he squares off against the Big Red Machine led by the blazing hot Derek Dietrich. Baby-faced Tyler Mahle will take the hill for the Reds. Mahle’s numbers leave much to be desired yet this is a Friday night home affair against a weak Nationals lineup.
Pick: Under 9 and Reds run line (+1.5 @ -148)
Kansas City Royals (Danny Duffy +100) at Texas Rangers (Ariel Jurado-114) (O/U 10.5)
Danny Duffy is small in stature yet he has become a formidable Major League pitcher. Texas will send Ariel Jurado to the mound. Jurado made it through 6.1 innings in his last outing, letting up two earned runs against the Angels’ beastly lineup. However, Jurado only made it through 2.1 innings the last time he faced the Royals.
Pick: Royals moneyline (+100)
Milwaukee Brewers (Jhoulys Chacin -118) at Pittsburgh Pirates (Chris Archer +105) (O/U 9.5)
If Chris Archer does not figure out this pitching thing soon, he just might get sent back to the minors. The fact that fantasy baseball owners far and wide are dropping Archer from their rosters is a testament to his ineffectiveness. Unfortunately, Archer will face a Brewers lineup that has put up at least five runs in each of its last seven outings. Adding salt to the wound is the fact that Jhoulys Chacin will take the hill for the Brewers. Chacin might not be an ace yet he can certainly mow down the Pirates’ right-handed batters.
Pick: Brewers Moneyline (-118)
