It looks like we will have a beautiful night for baseball. Astros fans will be treated to an entertaining matchup between ace Justin Verlander and a Brew Crew lineup that has the potential to put up a crooked number in any given inning. The Braves will take on rookie pitcher Mitch Keller and the Pirates after going deep five times last night against Chris Archer. Let’s try to predict the results of tonight’s action.
San Diego Padres at San Francisco Giants (O/U 7.5)
|San Diego Padres||-132|
|San Francisco Giants||+116|
If you do not know much about the starting pitchers in tonight’s game between the Padres and Giants, you are not alone. The Pads’ Joey Lucchesi has a decent WHIP of 1.13 yet he allowed four earned runs to the Nats in his last start across a mere five frames. Lucchesi’s last start against the Giants ended badly: seven earned runs across four frames in a 7-2 loss. Shaun Anderson has posted a 4.18 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in his rookie season. However, Anderson surrendered two long balls and three walks in his last outing, a 7-3 loss against the Mets.
Pick: Padres Moneyline -132
Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals (O/U 8.5)
|Kansas City Royals||-143|
Daniel Norris was once a prized pitching prospect in the Blue Jays organization. Known for living out of a van, Norris certainly deserves praise for his practical ways yet he has not fulfilled his potential as a major league pitcher. Norris will face the Royals this evening. Sugarhouse has the over/under listed at 8.5 for good reason: both of these teams struggle to score runs, regardless of who is on the hill.
Pick: Under 8.5
Milwaukee Brewers at Houston Astros (O/U 7.5)
The Brewers have a solid record yet their pitching has been disappointing throughout the first third of the season. Brandon Woodruff will face a beastly Astros lineup in the comparably tiny Minute Maid Park. Sugarhouse has the Astros as slight favorites at home. Look for Justin Verlander to limit the Crew to four runs or less this evening.
Pick: Astros Moneyline -130
Pittsburgh Pirates at Atlanta Braves (O/U 9)
Mike Soroka has fantastic numbers yet the righty is due for a letdown. Though the Pirates’ lineup is not exactly the scariest in the big leagues, there is always a chance Josh Bell will hit a couple out of the yard on any given night. The Pirates have recalled Mitch Keller for his second-ever major league start. This one could get ugly, considering the fact that Keller allowed six earned runs in four innings against the Reds back on May 27th. As noted above, the Braves’ bats are hot, having hit five homers last night against the enigma that is Chris Archer.
Pick: Over 9
