Tonight’s baseball action features plenty of relatively unknown pitchers as well as a few former aces. If the skies do not open up, we are likely to see some low-scoring games. Without further adieu, let’s try to figure out the best bets for this evening’s matchups on the diamond.
Minnesota Twins at Kansas City Royals (O/U 10)
|Kansas City Royals||+165|
Jake Odorizzi has had a surprisingly solid start to the season. Sugarhouse has Odorizzi and the Twins as hefty favorites yet the Royals’ lineup is capable of putting up at least three or four runs in this matchup. The question is whether Glenn Sparkman will be able to hold the Twins’ powerful bats in check. Sparkman allowed four earned runs in his last outing against the Twins. The fact that Minnesota’s hitters saw Sparkman’s stuff a mere five days ago does not bode well for Sparkman’s chances. However, Odorizzi allowed four earned runs in that matchup, allowing two long balls and seven hits across six innings.
Pick: Over 10
Tampa Bay Rays at Oakland Athletics (O/U 8)
|Tampa Bay Rays||-120|
Charlie Morton won a World Series in Houston after an unremarkable start to his career in Pittsburgh. Morton is a slight favorite this evening against a halfway decent A’s lineup. Morton blanked the A’s the last time he faced them, striking out seven across seven frames while allowing two hits and two walks. The A’s Frankie Montas has a 2.85 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP and a 9-2 record to show for his hard work. Montas whiffed a total of 19 batters in his last two outings. Baseball gamblers should be all over Sugarhouse’s under of 8.
Pick: Under 8
San Francisco Giants at Los Angeles Dodgers (O/U 7)
|San Francisco Giants||+180|
|Los Angeles Dodgers||-205|
Madison Bumgarner and the Giants are sizable dogs this evening against the NL West-leading Dodgers. Julio Urias takes the hill for Los Angeles. The bespectacled Urias typically throws in relief yet he will open tonight’s game. Urias allowed two walks when pitching against the Giants merely three days ago. Look for Urias to pitch a couple innings before giving way to the pen. Bumgarner and the Giants should be able to put up at least a few runs against the Dodgers’ relievers.
Pick: Over 7
Baltimore Orioles at Seattle Mariners (O/U 9)
The Mariners have put up solid offensive numbers since trading home run leader Edwin Encarnacion to the Yankees. Tonight’s matchup is at home against the Orioles. The O’s Dylan Bundy has 78 strikeouts in his 75 innings of work in the 2019 campaign. Bundy’s 4.44 ERA and 1.28 WHIP are not exactly impressive yet these numbers are considered solid in the context of Oriole pitching. Baseball gamblers must question whether Wade LeBlanc is worth their trust. The lefty made it through 2.2 innings in his last outing, a matchup with the A’s. This one should go over.
Pick: Over 9
