Tonight’s baseball action should go a full nine frames as the weather Gods have blessed us with clear skies. The Dodgers will look to continue their winning ways in a matchup with the hard-hitting Rockies. The Nats’ Stephen Strasburg will look to get back on track in what should be an easy win against the lowly Marlins. Here is a quick look at what is likely to transpire on the diamonds this evening.
Washington Nationals at Miami Marlins (O/U 7.5)
Sugarhouse has Stephen Strasburg as a heavy favorite yet tonight’s matchup with the Marlins might prove more competitive than the house assumes. Strasburg has allowed nine earned runs across his last 11 innings. The ace has surrendered a combined five home runs in his last two outings. If you believe in the law of averages, Strasburg should bounce back this evening. However, Sandy Alcantara has pitched well for the Marlins. Alcantara has allowed a total of six earned runs in his last five outings combined. However, the 6″4′, 170 pound righty struggled against the Nats the last time he faced them. Alcantara is due for a letdown. The Nats lineup is not exactly elite yet it can easily put up a crooked number in at least one or two innings.
Pick: Over 7.5
Los Angeles Dodgers at Colorado Rockies (O/U 11.5)
|Los Angeles Dodgers||-200|
The Rockies just might have one of the most potent lineups in the history of the game. Baseball gamblers far and wide are rightfully questioning whether the Rawks lineup can be held in check by any big league pitcher. Anyone? Buehler? Well yes, perhaps Buehler has the answer. Walker Buehler, that is. The righty from Vanderbilt has an incredible 0.88 WHIP, a sub-3.00 ERA, 100 strikeouts across 91.1 frames and an 8-1 record. Buehler pitched a complete game in his last outing against Colorado, allowing three hits, zero walks and two earned runs. As a result, Sugarhouse has the Dodgers listed as heavy favorites. There is no reason to trust Rockies’ pitcher Peter Lambert.
Pick: Dodgers moneyline -200
Arizona Diamondbacks at San Francisco Giants (O/U 11.5)
|San Francisco Giants||-109|
Alex Young and Tyler Beede. Let those two names sink in. If you are like most baseball fans, you have no idea who these two pitchers are. This is precisely why Sugarhouse has set the over/under run total for this matchup at 11.5. The Diamondbacks saw Beede’s stuff firsthand merely five days ago. Arizona knocked out the righty from Vanderbilt after a mere four innings. Alex Young is a 35-year-old lefty taken in the second round of the 2015 draft. Unfortunately, Young’s ERA across the ’19 campaign as a minor league pitcher is right around the 6.00 mark. His WHIP is equally unimpressive: 1.683. If you absolutely have to have action on this game, take the Giants at home.
Pick: Giants moneyline -109
Oakland A’s at Los Angeles Angels (O/U 9)
|Los Angeles Angels||-150|
The A’s have seen Griffin Canning two times already this season. Canning has solid numbers yet Oakland seems to have figured him out, putting up four earned runs across six innings the last time they faced the righty from Mission Viejo, CA. Tanner Anderson will pitch for the A’s. The Harvard grad failed to make it to the fifth inning in his last outing, a 5-3 loss against the Rays. The only thing that bodes well for Anderson is the fact that he is right-handed and facing a right-hand dominant Angels lineup.
Pick: Over 9
