The second half of the baseball season is finally here. The Dodgers look like the team to beat yet the Yankees might have one of the best lineups in baseball history when healthy. Tonight’s matchups feature some solid pitchers, highlighted by Dallas Keuchel. Let’s peer into the crystal ball to see what will transpire on the diamond this evening.
Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles O/U 9.5
|Tampa Bay Rays||-155|
Though the Baltimore Orioles are terrible, they have a few decent pitchers. Sugarhouse has the O’s as slight dogs against the Rays. Dylan Bundy will take the mound for Baltimore. Bundy has a 2.19 ERA and a 0.73 WHIP in 12.1 innings against the Rays. The righty has 96 strikeouts across 91 frames this season. Yonny Chirinos has some pretty spectacular numbers of his own: a 2.19 ERA and a 0.81 WHIP against the Orioles along with a 3.15 ERA and 0.99 WHIP for the season. This game should go under.
Pick: Under 9.5 and Baltimore run line +1.5 -120
Minnesota Twins at Cleveland Indians O/U 9
Kyle Gibson had a solid first half of the season. However, Sugarhouse has him listed as an underdog to Mike Clevinger and the Indians. Clevinger has a sub-1 WHIP yet a disappointing 4.44 ERA. Gibson should keep the Indians’ bats in check after his extended rest period.
Pick: Twins moneyline +108
New York Mets at Miami Marlins O/U 8
|New York Mets||-105|
Jason Vargas has been one of the few bright spots for the pathetic Mets. Vargas doesn’t strike out that many batters yet the savvy vet should not have much of a problem with the offensively-challenged Marlins. Caleb Smith will pitch for the fish. Smith has a WHIP right around 1.00 yet he rarely makes it beyond the 6-inning mark. Furthermore, Smith has allowed at least two home runs in three straight outings. The Mets should come together for a victory that gets the second half of the season off to a truly fresh start.
Pick: Mets moneyline -105
Atlanta Braves at San Diego Padres O/U 8.5
|San Diego Padres||+102|
Dallas Keuchel has not exactly returned to his old form since returning from his extended break from major league baseball. Unfortunately, Keuchel will go up against a powerful Padres lineup this evening. However, the Pads will roll out the inexperienced Dinelson Lamet against the Braves. Lamet has only pitched five innings this season, allowing three earned runs against the Dodgers. Lamet’s career numbers leave much to be desired: a 4.60 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. If you insist on betting on this game, the Braves are the play.
Pick: Braves moneyline -122
