If you are a fan of low-scoring baseball, the oddsmakers at Parx believe you will have a blast watching tonight’s games. Plenty of the matchups on this evening’s slate have run totals in the range of 7 to 9. Let’s try to predict what will unfold on the diamonds tonight.
Cincinnati Reds at Miami Marlins O/U 7
Parx has the over/under for this matchup at a mere 7 runs as Reds ace Luis Castillo is set to pitch. Experienced gamblers know all about Castillo’s stuff. Less is known about Caleb Smith. The lefty from Sam Houston State has an ERA right around four yet a WHIP of 1.10. Smith allowed five earned runs on three hits and four walks in his last outing. The Reds should win in what will likely turn out to be a close game.
Pick: Reds moneyline
St. Louis Cardinals at Brewers O/U 9
|St. Louis Cardinals||+125|
If you watched the Brewers and Cardinals game last night, you witnessed a beat-down of epic proportions. The Brewers are sliding while the Cardinals are ascending. However, Brewers pitcher Adrian Houser seems to have cemented his status in the Crew’s rotation. Houser has a 6-5 record with a 3.62 ERA, a 1.28 WHIP and 85 Ks across 82 innings. He contained the Cards in his last outing, allowing one earned run on six hits across 5.1 innings. Mikolas has allowed five earned runs in three straight starts. The 31-year-old pitches to contact and it shows in his ERA of 4.43 and WHIP of 1.25.
Pick: Cardinals moneyline
Tampa Bay Rays at Houston Astros O/U 7.5
|Tampa Bay Rays||+165|
In a matchup between two of the better pitchers in baseball, Justin Verlander and Charlie Morton will square off in what will likely be quite the entertaining contest. Verlander has been dominant this year though he was upset last week. Charlie Morton is solid yet the Rays will likely struggle to give him adequate run support. When in doubt, go with the team with the better hitters.
Pick: Astros moneyline
Texas Rangers at Los Angeles Angels O/U 8.5
|Los Angeles Angels||-162|
The oddsmakers at Parx assume Mike Minor will get hit hard tonight as the Angels have an abundance of talented right-handed hitters. The fact that Minor is a lefty does not help his cause. However, listing the Rangers as +132 dogs is a bit extreme. Andrew Heaney silenced the Rangers bats exactly one week ago yet batters tend to fare better against a pitcher the second time around, especially when facing him in the same week.
Pick: Rangers run line +1.5 -165
