If you are looking for some action tonight, there is more than enough to choose from. The Astros and Rays game is awfully tempting from a bettor’s perspective as Parx has the Astros listed as another heavy favorite for good reason. The Rangers and Angels will roll out two relatively unknown pitchers in what will likely be a run-fest. Here is a quick look at what might happen on diamonds across America this evening.
Chicago Cubs at New York Mets O/U 7.5
|New York Mets||-121|
The Cubs appear to be significantly better than the Mets yet they only have three more wins than New York. The Mets will face Kyle Hendricks tonight. Hendricks pitched seven innings in his last outing, allowing no runs and striking out seven. Noah Syndergaard is set to pitch for the Mets. Syndergaard has been lights out since allowing four runs across five frames on July 6 against the Phillies. Syndergaard should be able to limit the Cubs to three runs or less. The Mets are more than capable of putting up at least three runs against the soft-tossing Hendricks.
Pick: Mets moneyline
Minnesota Twins at Chicago White Sox O/U 10.5
|Chicago White Sox||+163|
Jake Odorizzi has settled down quite nicely since allowing nine earned runs in a July 24 start against the Yankees. The righty from Breese, IL is 13-6 with a 3.57 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP. Ross Detwiler, the former A, will pitch for the White Sox. Detwiler allowed merely one run in his last outing, a 6-1 win over the Rangers. Detwiler allowed two earned runs in two frames the last time he faced Minnesota. One has to question whether Detwiler is worthy of starting when his ERA is 5.51. The Twins left-handed bats should go to town on Detwiler tonight.
Pick: Twins moneyline
Tampa Bay Rays at Houston Astros O/U 8
|Tampa Bay Rays||+185|
Parx has the baby-faced Ryan Yarbrough listed as a gigantic underdog this evening yet the lefty has not allowed more than a single earned run in four straight starts. However, he will be pitching in Minute Maid Park, a stadium that is far from friendly to southpaw pitchers due to the egregiously short left field fence. Gerrit Cole will throw for the Astros. Cole has not allowed more than four earned runs in six outings. Cole’s WHIP is a minuscule 0.95.
Pick: Astros run line -1.5 -104
Texas Rangers at Los Angeles Angels O/U 10
|Los Angeles Angels||-186|
Relief pitcher Emmanuel Clase will pitch tonight for the Rangers. Patrick Sandoval, a 22-year-old lefty, will pitch for the Angels. This game is a bit difficult to handicap as little is known about these young pitchers. Clase is averaging just under a strikeout per inning yet his ERA is 4.35. Sandoval has horrible stats: a 6.75 ERA along with a 1.67 WHIP.
Pick: Over 10
