Baseball gamblers have quite the intriguing slate of games to choose from this evening. The matchup between the Pirates and Rockies is particularly interesting as Parx has set the over/under run total at a whopping 14.5 runs. This is one of the highest run totals of the entire season. Will the Rockies’ bats help this one hit the over? Will Felix Hernandez be able to return to form against the Rangers? Let’s find out.
San Diego Padres at San Francisco Giants O/U 8
|San Diego Padres||-130|
|San Francisco Giants||+108|
Parx has Chris Paddack listed as only a slight favorite even though he will face a fairly weak Giants lineup. The Giants have not yet seen Paddack’s stuff. However, Paddack allowed six earned runs in his last outing. Paddack simply has not been his usual self since he was blown up for half a dozen runs back on August 4th against the Dodgers. Giants pitcher Dereck Rodriguez also allowed six earned runs in his last outing, a 12-11 loss against the Cubs. Rodriguez seems to be boom or bust, allowing either a couple runs or surrendering 6+. There is no middle ground and that is bad news when facing a lineup as potent as the Padres.
Pick: Padres moneyline
Los Angeles Dodgers at Arizona Diamondbacks O/U 9
|Los Angeles Dodgers||-200|
Pick: Hyun-Jin Ryu is the talk of the baseball community as his numbers are spectacular. Ryu will face the Diamondbacks tonight in Arizona. While plenty is known about Ryu, nowhere near as much information is available about Merrill Kelly. Kelly is 9-13 with a 4.86 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. Kelly’s last start against the Dodgers was a 5-4 loss in which he allowed three earned runs across six innings. The righty has allowed a combined total of 13 runs across his last 15 innings pitched.
Pick: Dodgers run line -1.5 -117
Pittsburgh Pirates at Colorado Rockies O/U 14.5
Your eyes are not deceiving you. Parx really has set the over/under total for this game at 14.5 runs. Chi Chi Gonzalez is the primary reason why the over/under is set so high. Gonzalez has an ERA approaching seven and a WHIP of 1.63. Gonzalez allowed five earned runs the last time he took the hill. Trevor Williams is equally bad. Though the Arizona State grad shut out the Reds the last time he pitched, he typically surrenders about five runs per outing. Williams’ 84 Ks in 112.2 innings is a testament to the fact that he pitches to contact. Let’s assume both pitchers struggle tonight. The Rockies have a much superior lineup so there is a good chance their bats will be able to pull out a victory.
Pick: Rockies moneyline
Seattle Mariners at Texas Rangers O/U 10.5
Felix Hernandez is a shadow of his former self. The 14-year veteran has an ERA in excess of six and a 1.44 WHIP. Hernandez allowed two earned runs in his last outing, a 5.2-inning effort against the Jays. However, King Felix was blown up in his two starts prior to the matchup with Toronto so he cannot be trusted from a gambling perspective. Rangers pitcher Lance Lynn allowed seven earned runs on 11 hits the last time he took the hill. The 280-pounder will square off against a pathetic Seattle lineup this evening so there is a good chance he will be able to bounce back to his usual form.
Pick: Rangers moneyline
