Some of tonight’s baseball matchups have no impact on the playoff race yet they certainly present opportunities for gamblers looking to make some quick cash. For one, the Pirates and Rockies matchup will likely prove quite entertaining and possibly even serve as an opportunity for gamblers to make a nice chunk of change. The A’s and Yankees game is also quite intriguing as two southpaws, Brett Anderson and CC Sabathia, will throw in the Big Apple.
Houston Astros at Toronto Blue Jays O/U 10.5
|Toronto Blue Jays||+170|
Astros pitcher Wade Miley has solid numbers in his 8th season in the big leagues: a 13-4 record with a 1.20 WHIP and a 3.13 ERA. Miley will face a decent Blue Jays lineup featuring an abundance of second generation major league mashers. The Jays youngsters should be able to put up at least three runs against Miley. The question is whether Trent Thornton will be able to keep the Astros bats quiet. Thornton has a nice streak of games going in which he has allowed three earned runs or less. However, Thornton only made it through four innings in his last start before getting the hook. Thornton has not exceeded the 100 pitch mark since late June so the Jays bullpen is likely to get more than its fair share of work tonight.
Pick: Over 10.5
Los Angeles Dodgers at Arizona Diamondbacks O/U 9
|Los Angeles Dodgers||-134|
Tony Gonsolin typically throws 75 pitches across four frames of action, leaving the rest of the work to the Dodgers bullpen. This is precisely why the 25-year-old’s record is a mere 2-1. Take a closer look at Gonsolin’s numbers and you will find he is quite effective in limited action: Gonsolin has a WHIP below one and a 2.74 ERA. Zac Gallen struck out eight Brewers in his last outing, a 4-0 loss. However, Gallen only allowed two earned runs on two long balls in the outing. The righty might struggle with the Dodgers lineup tonight as the California kids have more than enough left-handed power to ruin Gallen’s evening.
Pick: Over 9
Pittsburgh Pirates at Colorado Rockies O/U 14.5
Though the average baseball fan does not know much about pitchers Dario Agrazal and Antonio Senzatela, hardcore baseball gamblers certainly know who these two are. Agrazal is a 6’2″, 240-pounder from Panama with a 4.41 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. Agrazal has struck out only 25 batters in 49 innings pitched in his career. Things did not work out so well for Agrazal the last time he took the hill, allowing four earned runs across five frames against the Reds. Rockies pitcher Antonio Senzatela has an ERA around seven and a WHIP just below 1.8. The Venezuela native has been rocked in his past four outings, allowing a total of 27 total earned runs across those games. As a result, Parx has set the over/under for total runs in this matchup at 14.5.
Pick: Pirates moneyline
Oakland A’s at New York Yankees O/U 11
|New York Yankees||-141|
At first glance, this looks like a fairly even matchup between two southpaws. However, Sabathia is nowhere near as good as he was merely a few seasons ago. There is little chance CC can hold the A’s lineup to less than three runs across five or six innings. Alternatively, A’s pitcher Brett Anderson has the potential to keep the Bronx Bombers’ bats in check until giving way to the bullpen. However, Parx has the A’s listed as slight underdogs for this matchup.
Pick: A’s moneyline
