Tonight’s slate of games feature pitchers only veteran baseball gamblers and fantasy baseball players have heard of. The fact that these pitchers are not household names should be viewed as a money-making opportunity rather than a reason for gamblers to sit on the sidelines. Below, we analyze a handful of tonight’s matchups to determine the best teams and run totals to put your money on.
Miami Marlins at Pittsburgh Pirates O/U 9
The Marlins and Pirates are going nowhere this year yet baseball gamblers can make plenty of money wagering on these squads down the stretch. Marlins pitcher Elieser Hernandez has an ERA above five yet a halfway decent WHIP of 1.23. Hernandez has settled down quite nicely after allowing six earned runs to the Dodgers on August 14. Pirates pitcher Dario Agrazal has not pitched beyond five innings in a start since his July 26 outing against the Mets. Agrazal allowed nine hits in his last outing while striking out only two batters. These pitchers certainly won’t be in the discussion for the Cy Young at any point down the line yet they should be able to keep this game below Parx’s over/under run total of 9.
Pick: Under 9
Texas Rangers at Baltimore Orioles O/U 9.5
Kolby Allard is a rookie lefty from San Clemente, CA. Allard blanked the White Sox two weeks ago. He followed up that spectacular performance with 5.2 innings of work against the Mariners in which he allowed two earned runs. Allard should be able to keep the O’s lineup in check. O’s pitcher John Means has been solid all season long. This one should go under.
Pick: Under 9.5
Chicago Cubs at Milwaukee Brewers O/U 9.5
In what will likely turn out to be one of the better pitching matchups of the evening, Jose Quintana will take the hill for the Cubs while Chase Anderson pitches for the Brewers. Quintana was smacked around by the Nats’ bats on August 24 yet that poor outing was sandwiched between two shutouts against the Pirates and Brewers. Chase Anderson seems to either pitch a shutout or surrender five or more runs. The fact that the Cubs scored five earned runs on Anderson the last time he faced them does not bode well for the Brew Crew’s chances tonight.
Pick: Over 9.5
Minnesota Twins at Boston Red Sox O/U 11.5
|Boston Red Sox||-157|
Nathan Eovaldi has not fared well in his last three outings. Eovaldi has only pitched nine innings across those appearances yet has allowed eight runs. However, the righty from Houston has 46 Ks in 43.1 innings pitched in the 2019 campaign. Martin Perez allowed seven earned runs in his last start. The lefty has tailed off considerably in the second half of the season. Things will not get any easier tonight against a loaded Red Sox lineup.
Pick: Over 11.5 and Red Sox moneyline -157
