The first day of play at the Traveler’s Championship has come to a close, and it was a pretty good day overall for our featured golfers. None of them are out of the tournament, and three of the four have gotten off to strong starts. The lead is currently held by several different players at six under par. Our featured golfers are anywhere from two shots back to seven shots back. To learn more about how each golfer fared and their odds to win the tournament at this point, read on.
Travelers Championship 2019 Favorites
Koepka, the number one ranked golfer in the world and the incoming favorite to win the tournament, actually had the shakiest Thursday of any of the golfers we’re following. He stumbled to a one over par 71, leaving him seven back of the leaders. While he’s a long way back, he still has a chance if he plays well over the coming days. SugarHouse puts his current odds of winning the tournament at +4000.
Cantlay was the second favorite coming into the tournament. In contrast to Koepka, the other favorite, Cantlay played quite well on Thursday, He fired a four under par 66 to leave himself just two back of the lead and in excellent position to make a deep run. SugarHouse has him at +650 to win on Sunday.
Travelers Championship 2019 Underdogs
Snedeker had a strong day on Thursday, finishing with a two under par 68. This solid round has left him only four back of the lead, and in good position so far. SugarHouse has him at +6600, but it seems like they might be underrating Snedeker after his good start to the tournament.
Hovland was certainly the riskier pick of the two underdogs, considering that he’s playing in his first tournament as a professional. However, he got off to a great start to his professional career. He finished with a three under par 67 on Thursday, leaving him just three shots back of the leaders at six under. SugarHouse has him at +4500.
